Ever heard about referrals?

If no, then continue reading.

Referrals are generally references or word of mouth publicity done by your clients. If your client likes your work then he/she will surely want to refer you to his/her friends. It’s better to get referrals instead of spending huge amounts to advertise your talents. More the referrals you get, more your revenue increases.

How can i get referrals for any business?

The main challenge that people face today is how to get more and more referrals. Even though your clients are satisfied with your work, you are still not able to get referrals from them. So, if you want to increase your customer base and revenue here are a few ways that you should follow.

Keep on asking for referrals

Too many people are afraid to ask. There is a general myth that asking for referrals will make you desperate. Guys, this is absurd. If your clients love your work they will be happy to refer you further. I have a friend who is amazing at his job and his clients love his work but he never asked for referrals. One day he changed his mindset and started asking for referrals. For god’s sake now he has so many clients that he is always busy with work.

Keep reminding them to refer you

Stay in touch with your client (both past and present) and always remind them to refer you. I have not discussed business with my long time broker in the last 5 years but I always get a Diwali card from him in which he thanks my constant support and reminds me to refer him to other people.

Make a referral program

Discounts should be offered to your clients who bring you referrals like 5% off on the future session. This will encourage your clients to refer you more and more.

Offer gratitude

Always thank your referrer. The person who has referred you is not looking for a reward in return. He/she did that because he/she loved your work. So there is no need to give a big reward as your thank you gesture. A small reward will do just fine. Sending my referrer bouquet is my way of saying thank you.

How to relate above strategies to photo video business?

Photography is an interesting profession but only a few are able to overcome its challenges. First is the money required to buy its expensive equipment such as a decent camera, lens etc and second is having a good eye. According to photographic society of America, 40% of photographers change their profession after 1st year. In fact, my brother is pursuing a photography course in Australia and according to his recent views, it’s not easy to survive as a photographer.

You can’t survive with just 10 clients. You have to increase your customer base. The easiest way to do that is to get referrals. So, if you want to be a professional photographer and earn good money here is a list of ideas that you can use to attract new clients and increase your revenue.

Make a referral program

People get happy when they are offered discounts. You can offer various discounts to your referrer like 10% off on wedding shoots or 5% on holidays shoots. With this people will be delighted to hire you again and also bring you referrals.

Keep on asking for referrals

It’s always better to ask for referrals. Look out for various companies in your area. They are always in need of a photographer. Get in touch with them and ask them whether they need a photographer to shoot and promote their events. If they will like your work they will definitely give you more contracts and will refer you further.

Keep reminding them to refer you

Get in touch with your clients (both past and present) and keep on reminding them to provide you referrals. Mail your clients your last assignment photos and remind them that you appreciate their support and would love to get their referrals.

Offer gratitude

As chivalry, don’t forget to thank your referrer. Your way of gratitude might differ. Offering free mini photoshoots is my way of thanking the referrer.

The above-mentioned list is a must to follow guide which will help you to get more referrals and increase your business.
